You will find in the following compacted tar archive a Latin dictionary (version 0.21) for ispell:
More precisely, it's a dictionary of the Latin of a Italian mathematician of the Renaissance, Francesco Maurolico, useful to correct the edition of his mathematical work (that's why we call it mlatin): one hundred texts and circa 5000 pages. The vocabulary file contains circa 5000 words. It corrects well texts of this mathematician, will correct probably quite well a mathematical contemporary text, but will correct undoubtedly very badly a classical literary text. It is however relatively easy to adapt it to build, if need so, a more general dictionary, of classical Latin for example.
This dictionary (all the files of the archive) is GPL free software. Please read this licence carefully before using or redistributing this dictionary.
This archive contains the file of affixes mlatin.aff, the vocabulary file mlatin.dico, a directory dicos/ of vocabulary files *.dicos more easily to transform, including the main principal.dico, a little sh script mbuildhash to build directly from the vocabulary files *.dicos the hash file mlatin.hash, a long explanatory file README.html (actually only in French), the GPL license and the file you read now.
If you intend to only test it, uncompact the archive and in the same directory, build the hash file mlatin.hash launching the command buildhash mlatin.dico mlatin.aff mlatin.hash. Now you can check a latin file typing ispell -d ./mlatin file. It is convenient to install the file mlatin.aff and mlatin.hash with the others dictionaries of ispell, usually in /usr/lib/ispell/; now you can check a file with ispell -d mlatin file.
If you want to see how this dictionary is constructed or if you decide to work on it, it is more convenient to use the files of vacabulary of the repertory dicos/, including the main file principal.dico. These vocabulary files *.dicos are written with a new more simple format which allow to correct and maintain the base much more easily. It accept several words on the same line (separated with a space) and comments after a #. The script mbuildhash allow to automate the construction of the hash file mlatin.hash: it concatenate the differents files of vocabulary *.dicos, remove the comments, translate space in carriage return, sort the list obtained and launch icombine and buildhash to build the hash file mlatin.hash.
